ONE HUNDRED
YEAR ANNIVERSITY
2003 is a special year for the BYC. The club has evolved over the years into a great local
institution. Many families have been members for several generations, keeping
the links to our storied history vivid, while new members bring a spirit and vitality to the
club that keeps the traditions going. The Board of Directors would like to make
this a special year for everyone. NO, WE CAN’T MAKE THE DUES FREE! But we do have something else in mind.
We would like to create one or more display cases in the BYC this
summer. Members will be able to look back over the years in pictures or mementoes, get a sense of what the club was all about, and see how
it has evolved into the fine organization it has
become . I would ask that any family, especially the “old timers”, scour their attics and storage bins. We would like
to borrow these items for the 2003 season to put in a display case that will be locked. All items in the case will be
acknowledged and returned at the end of the season. So start searching and call Tom Devine with anything
you think might be of interest.
YEARBOOK COMMITTEE
If you have any
changes for the yearbook, i.e. names or address corrections, boat additions and
deletions, etc, please call or email Jill Corbett at 587-1450. Corbatrask@aol.com The yearbook committee is also looking for photos for this year’s book. If you have photos that you would like the
committee to consider, please call Bud Caputo
at 587-1601 ((bud277@optonline.net)
or Tom Devine at 661-6273 (tdevine265@hotmail.com) and they will
arrange to pick them up. ALL PHOTOS
WILL BE RETURNED UPON REQUEST.
THE FIRST ONE HUNDRED
YEARS- Tom Devine
Twenty-five
years ago a few dedicated members produced an account of the BYC called “THE
FIRST 75 YEARS”. It was an extraordinary effort to document the history of the club. Until the
supply was exhausted, all new members received a copy upon their admission.
This hard cover book is displayed in one of the trophy case on the main floor
of the clubhouse.
The
quality of this work has stood the test of time. Members of the Board of
Directors and other interested members have discussed producing an account of “THE
FIRST ONE –HUNDRED YEARS”. This account would expand
the above mentioned book to include the growth and re-invigoration of the BYC
in the last twenty five years.. I am looking for a volunteer or volunteers who
have a good sense of history and an interest in documenting our club’s history
from 1978 to the present. We hope to compile a commemorative booklet to
celebrate this special year at the BYC. It is possible that this work will be
referred to for many generations to come, maybe even the “THE
FIRST TWO- HUNDRED YEARS”? If you are
interested please contact Tom Devine.
CLUB
ARCHIVES
In a club so
rich in history, there are surely many of you who have pre 1970's pictures of
the BYC. We would ask you to share with us any pictures of historical
significance that would become part of BYC's permanent archives. The pictures
will be digitized and returned to you unharmed, along with our appreciation.
Some of them may be featured on our new website. Please contact me, Pete
Capitain, at 661-1783 or email pete@phcsystems.com.
ADMISSIONS – submitted by
Ken Goodwin
Now is the time to get the applications to us
for the people you are sponsoring for membership so
we can start the interviewing process.
If you need applications, please call Ken Goodwin at 422--4408. As a reminder, in order to sponsor or second
a prospective member, you must be a member of the Club for at least two years.
The BYC has a waiting list and all applications
will be numbered. The earlier the process is started,
the better the chances are for prospective applicants.

THANK YOU
Planning and work goes on at the BYC even after
the club closes for the season. In November the boatyard parking and storage
area near the Junior clubhouse was paved. This area needed a spring cleaning in
the fall. Members came down to the club to help load two ten yard dumpsters. It
is amazing the amount of material that accumulates over several years in
various nooks and crannies of the club.
We would like to thank those members who broke
their butts loading these dumpsters on November 9th in order to
clean up the boatyard prior to the repaving.
Those members are: Larry Olsen, Chris Weldon,
Ray Uriarte (father and son), John Gleason, Brian Nowotarski, Larry Schaeffer,
Paul Mulford, Pete Capitain, Ken and Chris Goodwin, Paul Greco, Mike Barrett
and Dan Robinson.
TREASURER’S
REPORT: Invoices for all dues and fees will go out
by March 15. Since we have a
substantial debt as a result of the capital improvements that were made last
year, your timely payment will enable us to satisfy this liability sooner and
save money on interest payments. The
by-laws are on your side until opening day, but I would appreciate any efforts
that members can make to pay their dues as soon as possible.
