The wish to remember or honor a father was a compelling force on June fifteenth, bringing out an exceptionally large crowd for the annual Father’s Day brunch.  All that was purchased for the brunch was consumed. Grills in the kitchen and main floor were continually producing eggs, sausage, pancakes and potatoes for the masses. Sam from the Delphi diner came through the line and soon after offered all cooks a part time hash slinging position at the diner.  Rick Florin as labor spokesperson later secured full time positions with benefits for those who wished to take the job opportunity.  June Stuhler refused an offer from Sam to greet and seat patrons at the diner because or her extensive 2003 travel plans. Had Sam not recently hired a new cashier, he later told Rick he had his eye on Irene Morris as a possible prospective.  Rick Florin was offered no position at the diner for fear he would organize the existing kitchen staff.  All fathers attending thank the wonderful brunch staff and prospective diner employees for their culinary efforts including: Rick and Janet Florin, Carol McTigue, Lex and Donna Stewart, Dennis Kelly, Bud Caputo, Bob and Irene Morris, Kate O’Connell, June Stuhler, and John and Kristine Calamari.

The willingness of BYC members to come out into bad weather to attend a party is remarkable.  Many times one will hear excuses for not making the effort to attend a function, but not at the BYC.  The Caribbean party continues to bring people out despite flooded streets and heavy downpours.  June Stuhler, well traveled and connected, brought her friend, Julliard professor of performing Caribbean music and studies, who was impressed with the steel band.  For a short time June and her friend plunked away with band members.  June remarked, “If only Bob Marley were here tonight.”  The authentic Caribbean menu included plentiful appetizers and an abundant main course of chicken, salmon, pilaf, and salads.  All the desserts were homemade and delicious.  It was almost a crime to eat artwork as portrayed in the miniature foot cookies, sailboats, and palm trees created by the talented baker Donna Woyevodsky.  Grateful thanks goes out to the coconut crowd for providing this party: Donna and Nick Woyevodsky, Mary and Brian Nowotarski, Christine and Kevin Fitpatrick, Kim and Ray Mascolo, Sonja and Peter Anholzer, Bernadette and Scott Broderick, Jodi and Danny O’Donnell, Louise and Joe Guastella, Gail and Brian Reynolds, Cindi and Ed Lanigan, Eileen and Fred Catalano, Tom and Linda Hoyler, and Joanne McCallan.

Note from the Commodore: FLOATING DOCK

Contrary to popular belief the Board of Governors did not buy the floating dock to reinstitute swimming in the Great South Bay. The pool was built in 1964 to stop that. There is to be NO SWIMMING off the dock. The BYC does not have lifeguards posted at the end of the pier. If a child got stuck under the pontoons there could be dire consequences. PARENTS- please make sure your children do not swim off the dock. The staff will be instructed to immediately warn anyone swimming off the dock. Repeated violators will be reprimanded or subject to discipline under Article IX in the bylaws of the BYC!

The dock was purchased with the intention of making our sailing lessons more efficient. The sailors can tie the boats up to the dock rather than bringing them back to the hoist area. It can also be used for the big regattas the BYC will host as an effective launching area for small one design boats.

Reminder:  House Rules of the Club (see Page 38 and 39 of the Yearbook)

All house rules, guest rules and pool regulations are of utmost importance for the comfort of you the membership.  As the season is getting into full gear please familiarize yourself with them.

As a reminder there will be No Smoking within the Clubhouse and the South porch on the 1st floor.  Additionally, adult supervision is required for all children on our docks and in the playground.  Life jackets are recommended for children on docks

There is to be no one with wet bathing suits going through the main clubhouse, a wet floor can be very dangerous. Use the locker area bathhouse facilities for changing bathing suits etc.

Regatta:

We are looking for volunteers for our 4th of July Regatta weekend. We need Patrols Boats, Committee Boat helpers, Lunch Servers, Hoist operators Etc.

Please contact Jack Albanese 321-4468 or Pete Capitan 661-1783.

July 5th & 6th is the big one. Up to one hundred boats sail in this event to kick off to the regatta season on the Great South Bay.

July 11th, Friday evening @ 7 PM is a Corinthian Race. This race is an intra club race where we encourage any of our members with a PHRF type of boat to race. The committee gives out “special’ handicaps to even out the race between the experienced skipper/crew & the novice. It is more a social event than a serious race. There are refreshments in the upstairs after the race.
