WOMEN’S COMMITTEE- SUBMITTED BY IRENE MORRIS

Our last luncheon of the season, held on 8/19, boasted beautiful weather and an outstanding meal.  We feasted on chicken salad, asparagus vinaigrette, croissants, and a Klondike ice cream bar for dessert. Gail Askoff and her talented committee; Mary Ellen Sullivan, Jane Warren, Fran Pasch, Mary Freund, and Mary Grover did a wonderful job.  A good time was had by all.  Thanks ladies for your time and effort.

We've had a very successful summer in spite of the hot weather. The chair people and volunteers did a great job providing tasty lunches and a basket of cheer for a raffle every 2 weeks.  It's been a pleasure working with so many well-organized, capable women.  Thanks for all your cooperation.

NOTE FROM THE COMMODORE:

The fall membership meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 10th. This meeting will be open to voting and non-voting members and shall provide open discussion of any topic of Club affairs and operations.

The Board of Directors decided that there will be no storage of boats during the winter this year. There is additional work being done on the pool where we need access in the parking lot. We try to be good neighbours to the residents in the area surrounding the club. A few years ago the storage got out of hand. There is no equitable way to make a division as to what size or number of boats could be stored. In order to be fair to all there will simply be no storage this winter.

A local high school approached the BYC about starting and running a sailing team using the BYC facilities. There are many aspects to this undertaking. The Board would be interested in hearing the membership’s input on this topic.

Regatta - Jack Albanese and Pete Capitan

The Commodores Cup was held on August 23rd. The wind was out of the North, with big gusts and very variable. It made for a different type of sailing than the usual summer South West breeze. It was a good test of the crew’s sailing skills.

Aileen Eppig came in first with a bunch of new crew members. Congratulations!

Ken Goodwin was second and Jerome Dunnells was third.

Our next race is a Corinthian on Friday night September 5th.

 Special Thanks:

The basketball court has been painted with new lines by Ray Mulligan. All you want-a-be Michael Jordan’s should express a word of thanks the next time you jam over him. The BYC might create a new Special Events category, who can “sky” the highest with three steps from the foul line. Ray expresses his thanks to Gerry Ryan for the supervision he lent and the approval of the dimensions.

REMINDER:  HOUSE RULES OF THE CLUB (SEE PAGE 38 AND 39 OF THE YEARBOOK)

As a reminder there will be No Smoking within the Clubhouse and the South porch on the 1st floor.  Additionally, adult supervision is required for all children on our docks and in the playground.

Life jackets are recommended for children on docks, especially if a parent is not there. One slip or an accidental push with a crab net can lead to a terrible accident. None of the kids like to be confined but please use common sense with your children on the dock.

The floating dock is not to be a launching pad for jet skis. Please use the area around the hoist, where the club boats are to change riders. It is dangerous to be jumping off the T- Dock into the bay with all the boat traffic around

There is to be no one with wet bathing suits going through the main clubhouse, a wet floor can be very dangerous. Use the locker area bathhouse facilities for changing bathing suits etc.
