Our second
fashion show, which was held on July 28th, will go down in the history of the
BYC as one of our finest hours. Not only did we raise $5000 for two
charities; The Arthritis Foundation, and Ascent: A School for Individuals with
Autism, but we had a great time doing it!
As usual, the BYC has the most devoted, talented, hard-working
people around.
Suzie Heilpern
handled the ticket sales, reservations, and table seating magnificently.
All problems that arose during last years' fashion show were addressed. You are
an organizational genius. Her daughter, Natalie, has inherited her skills
and is busy working on surpassing her mother's talents! The dynamic
refreshment team of Rita Louden and Alice Rogers did a
wonderful job feeding our guests cheese, crackers, and delicious
desserts. A professional caterer could not have done a better job.
Lello Ryan and Chris Kerrigan handled the fashions beautifully. What
a dynamic team! We had terrific fashions from; Dress Barn, Talbot’s,
Bunger, Keemoz, Puddle Duck, and some gorgeous wedding attire designed by our
own Victoria McMillan. Linda Verrity dazzled us with fashions from
the past. The models did a great job, even the children who raced down
the runway. Claire Merz once again handled the tablecloths and centerpieces.
The Yacht Club never looked as good, a professional table
decorator could not have done a better job. What talent. The raffles were
one of the highlights of the show. It is a job that requires a lot of
time, effort and commitment. This fabulous
committee was led by Gina Capitano and assisted
by Sue Greco and Kristine Calamari, .The baskets brought in
a record amount of money for two worthy causes.
They were magnificently wrapped and displayed.
Thanks to our many members who donated such wonderful prizes.
Yvonne Albanese printed up some awesome tickets and posters. She was always
there when we needed her. Paul Steinberg, thanks for your piano music, which
made the fashion show enjoyable to listen to as well as to view. Nick
Giampietro, your sound system was awesome. You put in so many hours
setting up and taking down the equipment.
Thanks again to all the volunteers who made this fashion show the
success it was. It could not have happened without you.
The last luncheon of the season is 8/24. Please call Irene
Morris for reservations.
Regatta - Pete Capitain and Doug Williamson
Corinthian Race #2
With a North – Northwest wind, our race committee, Jack Albanese and Bud Caputo,
set up a challenging course of Windward-Leewards between the “9” and a pin off
the T-dock. Despite equipment problems,
they expertly started the fleet.
Greeting the hungry fleet was Debbie Goodwin, Peg Williamson, and Sandralee
Capitain who put out a spread that was appreciated by all.
The results of the Governor’s Cup are-
1st Place Ken Goodwin on Intrepid
2nd Place Jerry
Dunnells on Chanson
3rd Place Pete
Capitain on Sugar Magnolia

Upcoming Races:
Sunday, August 15th- Commodore’s Cup, First gun -1300, Non-Spinnaker start
Saturday, August 21st-JY
15 Regatta, First gun -1030.
Saturday, September 4th-
Women’s Championship, First
Gun – 1000, Club Bluejays.
Come down early (0900), pick a Bluejay, and rig it. Don’t fret about getting the best one - there
isn’t one. The format is Round Robin;
there will be as many races as there are competitors. After each race, you’ll switch boats so that
everyone sails every boat. Eligibility
is any adult female member of the club with her child, friend’s child,
vagabond, etc. You must have taken a BYC
sailing course or already be proficient in small boat handling to compete. Lifejackets are required. Questions?
Log on to the Regatta Bulletin Board online and join the thread (click
the lower left on the BYC home page). It
will also contain the latest revisions or corrections.
Many, if not all, competitors will be new to the sport which will set the
tone for this event. The racing rules
apply; however, sportsmanship, especially in front of our children, is
important. The Race Committee may make
changes to the rules on the water, and, on the water, shall adjudicate protests
and infractions. Race Committee
decisions may not be appealed. ..ah..the power!
A short triangle course will be set up just off the T-dock for the viewing
enjoyment of the rest of your family & friends (chuckle). Remember, these are wet boats. The water will still be warm, but when you
are finished and de-rigging, you’ll cool down quickly. Bring a change of clothes.
Hot dogs and soda will be served while we wait for the race results and
subsequent awards.
Sunday, September 5th- Men’s Championship, First Gun – 1000, Club Bluejays.
Dads, this is
your chance. Same ground rules as the
Women’s Championship with the obvious exception - men. Make us proud.
Please watch
the Web site for all race schedules and changes!
