The 4th of July celebration was a blast! We served close to 200 guests. After a day of races the hot food and cold drinks hit the spot. Inside the club house the DJ kept the kids dancing and moving with plenty of give a ways. Thanks to the “crew” of helpers this year, without which any of this happens. On the grill we had Tom Brophy, Mark Murphy and Rick German. Serving was Joan Haedrich, Louise Gusatella, Kieran McShane, Ken Matthes, Joan & Ray Uriarte and Sue Greco. On corn detail was Joe Guastella and Emile Nagel. Collecting money was two of our younger members Anne Greco and Casey McGowan. Also thanks to Ray Mulligan for helping unload all the food from my van. Mike and Dennis jumped in when things got real busy! Thanks again to all!

Governor’s Cup
Sunday, July 18, the weather was questionable from the start, with rain looming
to the east and west of us, but it turned out to be just a great day to race
for the five Non-Spinnaker boats that came out.
The Race Committee, Bob Maddocks
and Ed Miller, sent us into
The results of the Governor’s Cup are-
1st Place Jack Morgan on Ceol na Mara
2nd Place Jerry Dunnells on Chanson
3rd Place Ken Goodwin on Intrepid
Upcoming Races:
August 6th- Corinthian Race #2, First gun – 1900, Corinthian start.
This is the
second of a four-race series, again on Friday evening, with a Trophy
celebration afterwards. It’s meant to be
an evening of fun.
August 15th- Commodore’s Cup, First gun -1300, Non-Spinnaker start
August 21st- JY 15 Regatta, BYC is hosting the local JY15 Class racing. Details to follow.
September 5th- Men’s Championship, First Gun – 1000, Club Bluejays.
We’re going to change the format this year to one we used about ten years
ago. The club Bluejays, although aged
and leaky, will be raced by father-son/daughter teams. This is open to anyone in the club, and while
there might be a ringer or two, the idea is for us to have fun with our kids
(while our boats are sinking around us). Lifejackets are required for all
sailors. More info to come.
That being said, there’s a Women’s
Championship trophy tarnishing in our trophy case. We’ve found at least three moms who think it
would be fun to do what the dads are doing and that’s enough to have a Women’s
Championship race, scheduled tentatively for Saturday September 4. Same concept
as the Men’s Championship. More info to
follow.
Please watch the Web site for all race schedules and changes!

title.
2)
2nd Jr/Jr pool Party is on Monday August 2nd.
3)
Battle of the bands set for original date of August 16.

Reminder: House Rules of the Club (see Page 38 and 39
of the Yearbook)
All house rules, guest rules and pool
regulations are of utmost importance for the comfort of you the
membership.
As a reminder there will be No Smoking
within the Clubhouse and the South porch on the 1st floor. Additionally, adult supervision is required
for all children on our docks and in the playground. Life jackets are recommended for children on
docks.
Since the pool will be open soon please
do not walk with wet suits in the main clubhouse. It is dangerous to other
members. Please come through the door by the parking lot or use the facilities
next to the pool.
Note from the Commodore:
Many people devote their skills to
help the BYC run as smoothly as it does. The Board of Directors appreciate all
those who make an effort to make the year go smoothly. We are hesitant in
asking the same people for help in areas that are out of our expertise. The
Board is looking for a qualified electrician to help in solving the mystery of
the flagpole lights. These lights are a land mark that assists boaters to
navigate in the evening. They have not worked this year on a consistent basis.
There is a break in the circuit we can’t solve. With the proper tools and
skills we’re sure it can be fixed. The BYC will pay for all costs. Please contact Tom McGowan or Tom Devine.
This last item is an unpleasant one.
In the last newsletter I mentioned that respect for our staff is something that
the Board takes seriously. NO ONE has the right to yell or scream at our
staff. If you have a problem please contact our manager or assistant manager.
If that fails contact one of the flag officers or a member of the Board. Any
abuse of the staff will be taken seriously and dealt with in the manner
described in the By Laws of the BYC
