Entertainment, submitted by Paul Greco and Greg Schneller

Another terrific Happy Hour was held on September 22.  The party was held downstairs and enjoyed by over 100 members.  Your hosts were, Don & Lello Ryan, Vincent & Karen Berger, Cindy Ippolito, Frank & Denise Fiorino, Amy Moore, Bob & Chris Kerrigan, Brian & Lisa Piening, Tom & Leslie Brophy, Tony & Karen Gambino.

On September 25, 94 members enjoyed a beautiful night and another Beefsteak party.  Another Beefsteak??  Why not.  The Beefsteak is an old tradition and there was an open weekend.  An old team decided it was time to do another party along with some new members.  The hosts were, Greg & Mary Schneller, John & Eileen Schroeder, Joe & Karen Valdini, Chuck & Jill Hoyler, Tom & Linda Hoyler, Kieran & Anne McShane.  Kathy McShane, Lou & Maureen Colascione and Gary & Laura Ferrugiari.  Mary gave the orders, Chuck operated the stove, John was in charge of the grill, Lou and Gary tended the bar, Joe and Kieran served the hors d'oeuvres, the rest of the women did everything else and I did nothing.  Special thanks to Charlie Hoyler for collecting the money and guarding the door.  And… unfortunately for John Bell and Bud Caputo the royal order of steak carvers is no more. The most sacred of traditions has been broken…. A woman was seen carving the steak… shame on you Linda!

Corinthian 3,   Sunday, September 26th

With a North wind, Race Committee Charlie Smith and Bill Ewing set a Windward Leeward course between the “G9” and the T-dock.  Six skippers sailed it twice around to finish off the Reviewing Stand.  What a lovely afternoon.

The results of Corinthian 3 are-
1st Place            Chanson           Jerry Dunnells
2nd Place           Intrepid            Ken Goodwin
3rd Place           Ceol na Mara   Jack Morgan
Full results are on the website.

BYC – SBCC Challenge Cup – Take II,      Sunday, October 3rd

The stiff Northeast wind in the morning let up a bit for the start and, by the finish, it was dead; another drifter.  Talk about a sharp contrast to two weeks ago when we called the race due to 38-knot gusts.

Race Committee John Berquist and Marian Metznik gave us a great start at the “G9”, and we sailed twice around a triangle set up on this side of the bridge to finish off the Reviewing Stand.

A team of five crews from Babylon YC and five from Cruising Club raced against each other with the low point team wining the Challenge Cup, another perpetual trophy on display in our trophy case.  This year, Babylon handily won the trophy with 25 points to Cruising Club’s 31.

Hot Dogs and Hamburgers were the fare of the day with Sandralee, Bob & Michele Grover, and Peggy Williamson serving some hungry sailors.

No place awards were given, but the top three skippers were -
1st Place               Chanson           Jerry Dunnells            BYC
2nd Place              Intrepid            Ken Goodwin            BYC
3rd Place              Brokher            Aileen Eppig              BYC

Bass Tournament:

In 2003 we had 15boats participate in the annual BYC inshore/offshore fishing
Tournament and look forward to another successful year

There will be a change to the dates for the bass tournament. The captains meeting will be the night before--that way we will have a more accurate count as to who will fish.

Mark these dates on the calendar:

FRIDAY OCT 29:                  8 pm captains meeting
SATURDAY OCT 30           Tournament-6am to 3pm--refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the event.

We encourage non fishing people to come down and see all the fish we're going to catch!

Please call Rod Bisson if you can’t make the Captain’s meeting @ 631 220-0307 or 893-3474
