The Afterguard Party was attended by 222 members and guests.  Our experienced (older?) members run this traditional party.  As usual, they put together a terrific party.  Thanks to our hosts, Bud & Joan St.John, Shirley Skeffington, Libby Orr, Ted & Sally Sheibler, Barry & Jill Corbett, Sue Howell, Molly Blue and Carlin DeMurias.  Also helping were the professional bartenders and others who provided homemade specialties.   In addition, what would the Afterguard party be without the banjos!

On August 29 88 lucky members were treated to a wonderful Beefsteak. Everyone was enjoyed a terrific Smith & Wullensky Filet Minon.  Our hosts were, Dan & Helen Kissane, Mike & Diana Srubinski, John & Shelia Spiezio, Mike & Donna Nicolosi, John & Janet Lang, Chris & Bernadette Weldon.

121 members enjoyed the September 1”Adirondack” Happy Hour hosted by,  Ray & Maureen Grim, Tom & Lucille Rund, Rich & Judy Werner, Bill & Helen Ewing and Tom & Annette Bracken.

Women’s Championship        Saturday, September 4th

Saturday’s race was a pleasant experience for all involved.  The winds started out low but built to seven knots for a competitive series.

Four Corinthians sailed the course in pre-race activities.  Through their interests, the women’s championship happened for the first time since 1988.  As a point of interest, the crew for the 1988 winner was the winner of the 2004 women’s championship.

It was a great experience for all as patrol boats turned into coaching boats and experienced crew turned into coaches.  Many thanks to Dave Hyer, Charlie Smith,  Bob Grover, Aileen Eppig, Ken Goodwin, and Chris.  We all enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers in the boat yard, prepared by Scott Broderick.  Many thanks to Paul Steinberg for his “instant replay” photography that was appreciated by all participants.

Men’s Championship Sunday, September 5th

Compared to Saturday, Sunday’s wind was honkin...just perfect for the men.

The Patrol Boat this day (Larry Schaeffer with Aileen Eppig) was more actively engaged in search and rescue rather than coaching.  Hot dogs and cheeseburgers were, again, a hit in the boatyard.  Somehow, they deserve sauerkraut too, the women are investigating this.

The results of the Men’s Championship are-
1st Place            Ken Goodwin &Lauren
2nd Place
           Jim Glynn & Emma
3rd Place

Another excellent food spread by Sandralee Capitain, Linda Devine, Eileen Madocks, and Peggy Williamson.  Libby Orr presented the trophies for the race, worthy of a fitting memorial to Louis Orr.

BYC – SBCC Challenge Cup            September 18th

The remnants of Hurricane IVAN to the west and south do not keep this group off the water... common sense does.  The southeast winds Saturday morning clocked around to the Northeast and picked up to 30+ knot winds.  The consensus to call the race was greeted by both frustration and relief.

Frustrated mariners Marty O’Connell (Kickin’ Back - BYC) with a boat load of ‘refugees’ took off after Krzystof Bogdan (Spirit - SBCC) and his Polish contingent for a spirited race to the Red 6 and back, to win the cannon round at the finish.  The ‘refugees’ were asked to produce papers to get back on the dock (and to hit the beer cooler).  All mariners made the best of the situation.

Upcoming Races:
