OPENING DAY CEREMONY

The weather cooperated and we are off to another great season.  The flag was raised at 1 PM with a bang. John Bell introduced the Board, Past Commodores, the staff, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and most importantly, Father Jim, who prayed for us all to have another successful and safe year. The Coast Guard was kind enough to have a special fly-by and we all saluted.  The crowed rallied around the JYC for their ceremony and then it was off to the hot dogs and beer (or soda).

House Committee

The BYC looked fantastic, as always, with much help from many.  Included were those who helped Dick Patwell and Gary Guarino with the Clubhouse.  They accomplished their goal of painting the downstairs and porch with help from Will Walter, Bob Maher, Brian Nowotarski, John Schroeder, Charlie Hoyler, Warren Light, Gerard Costello, and Tom Devine.  A special thank you goes to Tom Hoyler – the floors never looked better.  The boat hoist in the boatyard looks great – thank you for the paint job John Hetterich and Tom Kennedy.

Curtain and Cushion Committee - Compliments on a job well done.  Special thanks to Sue Howell and Joan St. John and their committee of Molly Blue, Mary Rinklin and Shirley Skeffington.

Planting Committee: submitted by Mary Schneller

Very special thanks to Alyssa and Rick Van Bourgondien, of Van Bourgondien Nursery on Rt. 231 in Dix Hills.  Alyssa not only took the time to help plan the gardens, but she and Rick also donated new perennials, the beautiful annuals and all of the material needed, potting soils, mulch, etc. to turn the BYC into the floral spectacular that it has become!! (They have done this for many years.)

Special thanks to the following members who helped clean up the flower beds on Saturday 5/14: Linda Devine, Jill Hoyler, Eileen Hoyler, Linda Hoyler, Carolyn and Katie Schneller, Christine, Samantha and Phoebe Hoyler, Kathy and Kara Winters.

Special thanks to the following members who helped plant the following weekend on Saturday 5/21: Linda Devine, Eileen and Bob Maddox, Trudi Guarino, Carrie Lauren, Karen Valdini, Sandralee Captain, Joan Mathies, Jill Hoyler, Eileen Hoyler and Kathy Olsen.

Without the hard work of the above mentioned members the BYC certainly would not have looked as wonderful as it does.  Thank you all so much for your help and I certainly hope your backs have stopped aching.

Entertainment Report

Opening Party 2005

BYC’s 2005 Season opened to a roaring start on Saturday, May 28th.  Taking the reins for hosting the opening day party were Kristine and John Calamari – and better hosts they could not be.  Working tirelessly with their crew, the Calamari’s did a superb job.  Approximately 200 members enjoyed the fine food, outstanding entertainment and good conversation.  Their crew included Sue Greco, Regina & Rick Jacoby, Bernadette & Scott Broderick, Camille & Ron Stanton, Lisa & Ralph Benzakein, Louise & Joe Gustella.  Additional thanks to Kathleen Bisson for all the cookies she made.

This cup will be in memory of all the gone-but-not-forgotten “Old Salts” of the BYC

BYC CLUBHOUSE INTERIOR RENOVATION

Purpose:

To renovate the interior of the BYC main clubhouse.

Necessity:

As the major focus of the BYC, the clubhouse needs to be maintained and

protected to ensure it’s continued  availability to serve our members.

Several years ago we renovated the exterior of the BYC Clubhouse by

installing new windows, cedar shakes and roofing.  The interior of the main

clubhouse is in dire need of updating and with the bulkhead and pool projects

completed it is time to focus on the main clubhouse. Aesthetically and

structurally it needs work.  At the same time it should be brought up to current

safety codes.

Major Renovations Needed:

·        Install a fire sprinkler system in the clubhouse

·        Replace/update wiring

·        Replace/update plumbing

·        Replace walls and ceilings (fire retardant materials)

·        Insulate

Major Renovations To Be Considered:

·        Install heating system in order to maintain temp. and humidity during the winter.  (Not intended for year round use)

·        Install bathroom upstairs

Plan:

·        Propose renovation plans in the newsletter and at annual spring meeting

·        Obtain membership feedback and input

·        Hire Architect/Engineer and obtain estimate

·        Finalize plans

·        Construction, Fall 2007 / Spring 2008

Financing Options:

·        Dues increase

·        Loans

·        Assessment

·        Combination of the above
