and doing an outstanding job... You had your work cut out for you (such talent
at the BYC!)
Our winners were:

Most outstanding: McKenzie &
Liam O’Donnell
Most entertaining: Kimberly &
Ryan DeRosa
A very
special thank you to our director, Bernadette Weldon for putting this show
together and to Nick Giempietro for providing all the technical assistance.

SMOKING within the Clubhouse and the South porch on the First Floor and please
inform your guests.
-Adult
supervision is required for all children on our docks and in the

-These
are all simple rules and it is to everyone’s advantage to follow them.
-There
have been several incidents involving jet skis – please be kind to your fellow

Sunday, July 17th, was the Governor’s Cup race. For the first time since 1991, we had a
spinnaker fleet. It seems Santa Claus
was generous this past Christmas. Five
Spinnaker and two Non-Spinnaker boats sailed twice around the “A” course, which
Jack Albanese and Trudy Guarino set up, to finish at the BYC reviewing stand.
After 24 years, our old Governor’s Cup has been shelved and replaced with a
shiny new one, graciously donated by Gerry Dunnells.
Results:
Spinnaker First Aileen Eppig Brokher
Second Gerry Dunnells Chanson
Third Ken Goodwin Intrepid
Non-Spinnaker First Bryan McLoughlin Windswept
Second Dan McMillan That’s All

Race Week, July 28th thru July 31st, was
hosted at the BYC this year. This event
rotates among Babylon YC, Bay Shore YC, and Sayville YC.
These events don’t happen by themselves. Race Week was a safe and well run event,
thanks to the many volunteers who pitched in selflessly, in the spirit that
keeps BYC going at a hundred and two years old this year. The following were volunteers from Babylon
YC:
Food: Chair – Joan Uriarte, Co-Chairs Kristine Calamari and
Kathleen Farrell; Ray and Michele Uriarte, Karissa Calamari, Joan Haedrich,
Linda Devine, Nancy Warren, Suzanne Greco and Sandralee Capitain.
Safety
Boats: Chair- Jack Albanese; Dave Hyer,
Pete Mercier, Jake Albanese, Rick German, Tom Devine, Kenny Mathis, Jack Morgan, Larry Schaefer,
and Charlie Smith.
Race
Committee: Bob and Michelle Grover, Pete and
Sandralee Capitain.
The lunch signs for both this event and the 4th
of July were designed by Yvonne Albanese.
Many thanks to Mike, Dennis, & the staff, without whom,
no event of this magnitude could be so successful.
Check www.GSBYRA.org
for race results.
Coming
up:
Friday, August 12-
Corinthian #2, First Gun – 1900, Non-Spinnaker
Saturday, August 13- Women’s Championship,
First Gun – 1000, sailed in Flying Juniors, our newly
acquired fleet from MIT. Come
down early (0900), pick an FJ, and rig it. Don’t fret about getting the
best one, the format is Round Robin; there will be as many races as there are
competitors. After each race, you’ll switch boats so that everyone sails
every boat. Eligibility is any adult female member of the club with her
child, friend’s child, vagabond, etc. You must have taken a BYC sailing
course or already be proficient in small boat handling to compete.
Lifejackets are required. Please let me know if you plan on attending
(835-1310).
Many, if not
all, competitors will be new to the sport and/or the FJ’s, which sets the tone
for this event. The racing rules apply; however, sportsmanship,
especially in front of our children, is important. The Race Committee may
make changes to the rules on the water, and, on the water, shall adjudicate
protests and infractions. Race Committee decisions may not be appealed.
..ah..the power!
A short triangle course will be set up just off the T-dock for the viewing
enjoyment of the rest of your family & friends (chuckle). Remember,
these are wet boats. Bring a change of clothes.
Sunday,
August 14- Men’s Championship,
First Gun – 1000, Flying Juniors.
Guys, this
is your chance. Same ground rules as the Women’s Championship with the
obvious exception - men. Make us proud.
Please watch the Web site for all race schedules and
changes!
