Helen and

Oktoberfest 2005
An intimate crowd of 75 people had the place rocking for the BYC Oktoberfest (yes, we know its only September) Even though it was organized at the last minute, the dynamic duo of Kristine Calamari & Suzanne Greco had everything in order. Help was provided by the superb crew including John Calamari, Paul Greco, Bernadette and Scott Broderick, Barbara and Larry Schaffer, Chris and Tom McGowan along with Megan and Dennis Kelly. Amy Beth Bell performed cooking duties along with baking her delicious carrot cake even though she was unable to attend. The main courses included loin of pork cooked in sauerkraut, knock and bratwurst and pirogues. Fine German fare at its best. Bernadette even made her famous beer and cheese soup. How could you go wrong? A tremendous assortment of German beers was available for tasting. BYC critics raved that the band was the best we ever had which lead to some wild dancing moves being performed. Everyone had a wonderful time. Again we would like to thank this crew for stepping up and doing all the work necessary to allow us to still have a party. True Babylon Yacht Club spirit.
REGATTA: Pete Capitain/Jack Albanese
Sunday, September 11th, was BYC’s annual Louis Orr
Invitational Race. It was possibly one of the best sailing days
of the season, with plenty of sun and 8 – 10 knot winds from the East. Joe Mulle, with Lainie, was Race Committee on
JAZZ, compliments of Paul and Suzanne Steinberg. They set us on the A Course Reversed (twice
around for non-Spin and three times for Spin) to finish at the BYC reviewing
stand. Thanks to Joe and Pamela Cooper,
with Heather at the helm of JOPAM, for being spectator boat and getting our
members right up close to the action.
Fourteen non-Spinnaker and Four Spinnaker boats came out for an exciting
race.
