Regatta News Update – submitted by Joe Mulle

Regatta News Update – Joe Mullé & Dan McMillan

After chomping at the bitt all day at work BYC sailors showed up in resounding numbers to compete on one of the best Friday evenings we’ve seen in a while; in what was a high for the season to date fourteen boats competed in a 10-15 knot Southwesterly.  After a complete mix up in entering the finish times & some lively debate on who finished where, calmer heads plus a good nights sleep prevailed.  In third place was Harry Manko and crew aboard Full Circle, in second place was the Dunnells team board Chanson and in first place was Jim Reichel’s Silver Bullet.   Out for his first BYC race aboard his new C&C 25 Karma was Dan McMillan who finished a very respectable fifth!  Way to go Dan!!  Helping to get the race start and running smoothly was Tony Mullé.

There’re still a few races left before the end of the season, The Louis Orr Invite is scheduled for Sunday Sept 23rd, the last Corinthian Race is Sunday Sept 30th and the final race of 2007 will be the Commodore’s Cup on October 14th.  The Fall season is one of the nicest times to be on the bay, if you’d like to give racing a try contact a Regatta Chair & we’ll make sure we get you on a boat.

Women’s Committee – submitted by Irene Morris

The luncheon held on July 24Th was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Grace Ricketts and her fabulous committee; Nan Hanaway, Mary Rinklin, Lucy Trumble, Mary Jane Young, and Marilyn Winter, prepared a delicious lunch.  We dined on tasty chicken salad, bean salad, croissants, and carrot cake.  What a wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon.
Egg salad, tossed salad with nuts, cranberries, and feta cheese followed by carrot cake for dessert headlined our luncheon on August 7Th. Everything tasted delicious. Thank you Megan Kelly and your youthful committee, Cindy Ippolito and Kristine Calamari.  You certainly are a hard-working talented trio.
We also had our annual auction at this luncheon and many attractive and useful items were bid on by a lively group.  Many thanks to the ladies who donated the goods to be auctioned.

Our last luncheon, August 21st was hosted by me, Irene Morris.  My competent committee; Jane Kane, Janet Florin, Lucy Nagle, Eileen Farrell, and Sally Shiebler did a super job.  Quiche, tossed salad, grapes, and melon were a big hit.  We rounded off the meal with a hot fudge sundae. What a sweet way to end our summer luncheons!
Our 2 terrific helpers this summer were once again Annie Greco and Karissa Calamari. What a great job they did supporting all the ladies' luncheons. Thanks girls for all your hard work and cheerfulness.  The ladies loved you.

Thank you

The Senior Membership (as well as all others) would like to thank Mike and the Crew for making the rocking chairs look presentable for the Afterguard Party.

5th Annual BYC Fashion Show

The Show must go on!!  The date is Thursday, September 27th at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $20.00 and are nearly sold out.  Call Lello Ryan at 669-5729 for tickets.    There will be plenty of beautiful raffle prizes and fashions!!  A fruit & cheese plate, lemonade, iced tea, dessert and coffee will be served.  This is an adult only event and is BYOB.

After last year’s success, the “Touched By An Angel Boutique” will return.   The Boutique will feature toiletries and other items to be donated to the children at the Advocacy Center.  You will have the opportunity to “purchase” (a.k.a. donate) these items at the Boutique the night of the show.

We would like to thank those who have already been so generous and made a donation.  We are still accepting donations.   Please call Lello Ryan (669-5729) if you are interested.    We’re looking forward to a fabulous evening with cooler weather, so bring your “mad money” and join the fun!!   REMINDER:  Don’t forget your mailing labels or address stamps as we will be asking everyone to write their names on the raffle tickets (using the numbers takes too long).  See you on the 27 th!

Juniors – submitted by Dan McMillan

Snapper Derby & Brunch, Huck Finn Contest A record number of hungry BYC kids and parents (118!!!) came out for a brunch prepared by pancake experts Jack Albanese and Bob Landhauser.  Kerry Landhauser, Dave and Donna Johnson, Gary Gaurino, Doug Williamson, Bill Huber, Kendall and Chandler McMillan provided exceptional assistance.

Thanks again to Paul Steinberg for a well run Snapper Derby with help from Ray Uriarti, and Doug Mathis and the whole Cooper family!  Paul went right on to a great field day with over 50 kids participating under the helpful coaching of Mike Glynn, Danny O’Donnel, Sandy Galian, Michelle Sherman, and Cathleen Bisson.

Note- Volunteers are so important to the success of all these events at the BYC. It is important that each of them is acknowledged in the newsletter.  If we have left anyone out please let us know!  For example, I neglected to thank Daisy Holzmacher for helping out during the last pool party. (Thanks Daisy!)

Member Appreciation

A special thanks and recognition goes out to a special member.  For over 20 years, Paul Steinberg has made a significant contribution to the betterment of the BYC.  From serving on the board to being Commodore, Paul continues to make special events a highlight of the BYC Calendar.  The Snapper Derby, Field Day, and the Candlelight Sail continue to be a great success because of Paul’s special abilities.  A special thank you goes out to Paul from an appreciative BYC board.

The Night of the Dragon Party:      78 members and guests enjoyed a wonderful night of exotic drinks and Far East cuisine. The club was decorated with paper lanterns and with our hosts in kimonos, it made you feel as if the Far East was at the BYC.  Thanks to our host, Nora Savastano and her co-hosts; Peggy & Doug Williamson, Paul & Sue Greco, Bob & Kerry Landhauser, Kathy Monaco, Scott & Bernadette Broderick, Jim & Maureen Miraval, Joe & Lousie Guastella for a wonderful, enjoyable party.

The Afterguard Party: Hosts were Joan and Bud St. John, Sue Howell, Shirley Skeffington, Libby Orr, Grace & Ed Ricketts, and Molly Blue.  The crew consisted of Jill & Barry Corbett, Bud & Linda Caputo, Tom & Linda Devine, and Ron & Mary Lasley.  There were many donations of yummy sandwiches and snacks from the "Afterguard". Clams on the half shell were provided with the help of Jimmy Martino. The Banjo Airs were in charge of the music, which included many old favorites. Most of the attendees knew the words and those that didn't, well, they hummed along. 160 attendees had a great time!

Happy Hour – Aug 22nd:      The 95 members attending this happy hour were deliciously fed by our hosts Anne & Michael Glynn. Co-hosts were Lori & Will Walters, Barbara & Chris Krucher and Mary & Bill Hueber. Compliments were many and the company grand on this occasion. Thanks for a great Happy Hour!

The Beverly Hillbilly Hoedown:      Weeeeee doggies. The members who came to this party are still talking about it. We all agree that Mike & Cathy Hart have far too much time on their hands to have come up with all of the fun things at this party. From the 'How to dance like a Hillbilly' training machine, to the ceeement pond punch container, to the kamikaze-filled smoking still, to the authentic hillbilly decorations including a outhouse that Pat Ryan thought was a real one (oops!). Who’s bra was that hanging from the close line on the porch anyway? The theme was set for members and guests to have a great time. Square dancing and a strolling duet of banjo and fiddle players entertained the crowd who, for the most part, readily accepted the challenge of dressing like a Clampett (did everyone see Jethro Bell?). Helping out with the festivities were Sue Greco, Karen & John Hermann, Gerard & Liz Glass, Joanne & Tom O’Hara, Maria & Michael Caputo, Tara & Nick Mantalto, Jeanne & Dennis Collins and Carolyn Troise.

Beef Steak – Sept 8th:  Eighty-six members enjoyed the great food and wonderful weather at the BYC. Our hosts Gary & Laura Ferrugiari and Cathy McShane with co-hosts Lew & Maureen Colascione, Georgeanne & Roy Mangiamele, Terry & Greg Harris, Ursula & Joe Frazier, Phil & Kelly Berdolt and Gail & Gene Walker did a wonderful job in preparing a great steak dinner.  Hors de oeuvres were amazing and the drinks were plentiful. If you didn’t stay for the dessert, you missed one of the best assortments of treats this year!
