Regatta News Update – submitted by Joe Mulle
After pondering all day if there would be a race due to weather BYC sailors showed up in resounding numbers to compete on a cool wet & breezy Friday evening; seven boats competed where sails were reefed, crews told be ready to get wet and off they went. Finishing was equally spectacular with all boats finishing within 10 minutes of one another and then correcting out all with in four minutes of each other. In third place our second rookie of the year Andrew Hemmingway and crew about Door into Summer, second place went to the co-Chair Dan McMillan and continuing his rein of terror to take first place was 2006 Corinthian King Jerry Dunnells. Assisting in running this wet race was Pete Captitain.
Not less 24 hours later we ran the BYC Women’s Championship races. Four crews turned out to race the Flying Scots on a day with brilliant sunshine, cool temperatures and very shifty Northerlies. While on the race course the lead exchanged hands many times when it came down to the finish the team of Aileen Eppig, Allison Reichel & Venessa Kordich managed to grab the first every time. In second place was the crew of Maria Parascandola, Taryn Birkmire & Thersa (Who’s last name escapes me), third place went to the team of Daisy Holzmacher, Molly Jette, Stacey Behrens, and fourth place was captured by Christine Mullé, Barbara Schaefer & Sue Dunnells. The Support crew helping to make this race a success was Dan McMillan, Jerry Dunnells, Ken Goodwin, Pete Capitain, Jim Reichel & son Will, Andrew Hemmingway and Chris Sicignano. A special thanks to Dan McMillan, Hugh Larkin & Bud Caputo for use of their Flying Scots to make this event a success.
Please mark you calendars Corinthian race #4 has been rescheduled to August 24th.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER PARTY – July 14th
The South of The Border
Party once again proved why it is the most popular event of the BYC season. 175
members and guests enjoyed the festivities at this year's party, which was
hosted by Gerry & Peggy Ryan. Co-hosts at the party were Kevin & Kathy
O'Brien, Emmett & Mary Jane Allen, Kenny Mathes,
Peter & Karen Montgomery, Ray Mulligan, Jim & Debbie Woltmann, & Helen Kissane . Special thanks goes out to Pete
Montgomery and his crew at “Sea Levels” who worked overtime performing their
culinary magic on the ribs, chili and chicken quesadillas served at the party.
The food was unbelievable! The margarita’s were
flowing and regular bar was hopping all night. The band “Radio Daze” provided
the live entertainment. Guest singer Sean (a.k.a –
Jimmy Buffet) O'Malley sang the party’s theme song, Margaritaville
to the delight of the crowd.
HAPPY
HOUR – July 25th
Italian vs. American was
the theme of this Happy Hour. And let’s not forget the fabulous Watermelon
Martinis being served on the upstairs deck. Don’t worry John, not a drop was
spilled! The American table hosted back to basic foods that were a huge hit
with everybody. White Castle hamburgers (a.k.a.- Sliders), hot dog &
French Fries, Grilled Cheese, Rubens & all the fixin’s.
The Italian side had Pasta with Clam Sauce, Meatballs, Risotto balls and more.
162 members had a hard time choosing which one was the winner here! Thanks to
our hosts Tom & Leslie Brophy and their co-hosts:
Jodi & Danny O’Donnell, Tim & Kim Turri , Karen & Tony Gambino, Carol
& Bob Greene, Lisa & Ralph Benzakein, Gina
& Sal Capatino, Alexis & Dave Mottes, Donna Woyevodsky, Sonya Anholzer, and Nancy & Harry O’Donnell.
CLAM
BAKE - July 28th
The annual Clambake organized by Gary and Trudi Guarino fed over 200 members, guests and crew who were treated to a seafood orgy.
Special thanks go to Master Lobster and Mussel Chef Bud Caputo, with assistance from Joe Cooper, Barry Corbett, Ron Lasley and John Bell. You guys worked hard over those steaming hot pots to cook those lobsters to perfection and everyone appreciated you efforts!
Ken’s Shucking Shack was as busy as ever. Opening two bushels of little necks, Ken Goodwin had assistance from Rich Tesoro. Amazingly no band-aids were required and all fingers were accounted for! Thanks guys for all that hard work.
Working hard in the kitchen were Larry & Kathy Olsen, Jeff & Sharon Bieselin, Emil Nagel, Ken & Debbie Goodwin, Rich & Adrienne Tesoro, Andrew & Liza Sims, Lauren Goodwin, Katie & Lauren Olsen, Annie Guarino and new members Terry & Lenny Jenik. Live music this year was provide by the Trio, Sweet & Lo.
Thanks also to all the volunteer bartenders that kept the thirsty crowd at bay. We appreciate your pitching in to help out and taking time out from your party.
Thanks to all the members and guests that came out and
supported us to make this party so much fun and so successful. Can’t wait
to do it all again next year!
HAPPY
HOUR – August 8th
125 Members enjoyed one of the most popular Happy Hours of the year. Know as the Sean & Kathy O’Malley Bella Luna Happy Hour, it was once again hot & humid. Being down at the club was a welcome relief to the sticky weather. The Chianti was plentiful as were large array of delicious Italian delicacies and desserts. Sean & Kathy’s co-hosts were Lisa & Ralph Benzakein, Denise & Frank Fiorino, Emily & Steve Gargano, Trish Diggle, Lucy Nicosia, & Diane Caputi. Thank you all for another great Happy Hour!
Hosts are needed: for a Happy Hour on September 5th and a Party on October 13th, either as a Beef Steak or Theme Party, your choice! You will enjoy yourselves and get to meet a lot of great people. Swim Team - submitted by Doug Williamson
The 2007 swim season was a huge success. We had great
swimmers and a great swim team. This was all made possible by our
coaches, Amy Schroeder and Kathleen Hoffman. This was Amy and Kathleen's
first year coaching and they had a lot of support from some of our
parents. The parents who helped out were: Kathleen Bisson, Christine Calamari, Maureen Colascione,
Joan Haedrich, Cathy McShane,
Gail Walker, and Peggy Williamson. These ladies were given "Candle
in the Sand" Awards at the Swim Team Dinner. Speaking of the Swim
Team Awards Dinner, we could not have done it without the excellent help (as
usual) of Kenny Matthes and his crew, Scott
Broderick, Rick German, and Chris Carangi. A special thanks should go to Mike, Dennis and their staff
for the excellent work they did at the South Shore Qualifying Meet.
Jr./Jr. Pool Party - With a day full of rain and clouds, the weather held off long enough for 36 brave kids to come out for the Junior Junior Pool Party. The night cleared and it turned out to be a great event! On hand to provide tight security for this event were Kathryn Montalvo and her son Charlie, Louise Guastella, Debbie and Frank Dolan, and Camille and Ron Stanton.
Upcoming Events:
August
26th Huck Finn Day
9:00 AM Snapper
**Please note, for those new to the club—the raft race has very few rules. Both Speed and creativity are encouraged. The kids go from one end of the T-dock to the other in something that they create. We have seen everything from decorated boogie boards to home made log rafts—use your imagination!!!!
Although we have had some good response, Adult volunteers are still needed for this event—if you are available to help on August 26th please contact Dan McMillan at dgmcmillan@optonline.net or 631-463-3042.
